Sawyer County Highway Department is accepting applications for a fulltime Shop Foreman. Under the supervision of the Patrol Superintendent, the Shop Foreman:
• Supervises, coordinates and performs the mechanical repair and servicing of the Sawyer County Highway Department equipment fleet and other related work.
• Diagnose and repair trucks and heavy equipment, fuel systems, drive trains including clutch, drive lines and transmissions, air and hydraulic brake systems and electrical system problems; rebuilds and repairs suspension • Makes service calls when machinery breaks down • Work planning, scheduling, directing, performing and evaluating the repair and servicing of county equipment and vehicles • Establish deadlines and modifies work schedules to meet deadlines • Provides estimates of materials, costs and timeline for service and repair activities • Makes initial inspections in difficult cases and diagnosis malfunctions; provides technical assistance of advice to subordinates; inspects work in progress and upon completion • Collects and reviews daily equipment and vehicle inspections forms • Inspects shop and building facilities to determine proper utilization, maintenance and adherence to safety regulations • Participate in the preparation of specifications for new road maintenance, construction equipment and vehicles • Work with computerized application that assist in tracking, record-keeping and decision making relative to jobs, including monitoring fuel use and ordering • Responds to emergency situations, high water, blocked roads, washouts, snow storms as required • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications for this position include: Ability to operate and maintain a variety of heavy equipment for mechanical purposes and repairs; Knowledge of the standard methods, tools, materials and equipment employed in mechanical repair of light and heavy duty automotive vehicles and heavy duty construction equipment; Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precaution of the trade; Knowledge of the office record keeping practices associated with an equipment repair shop; Knowledge of computers and fleet management systems; Ability to use mechanics tools and equipment, including power tools and welding equipment; Knowledge of the operating principles of gasoline, diesel and small engines; a minimum of Four (4) years’experience in skilled mechanical repair of automotive vehicles and related construction maintenance equipment, or a blend of experience, education or training which would provide the level of knowledge and ability required.
Sawyer County offers a generous fringe benefit package including health insurance, retirement, life insurance, vacation, sick leave, and holiday pay. This position is scheduled for 40 hours per week with an hourly wage of $23.48.
